Love is All You Need

Last time I talked about grief. And how exhausted it has left me. Life is hard. Getting out of bed is hard, functioning during the day is hard, being excited about something is hard.

While this is all still true, I had a bit of an epiphany a few days after writing the post, which eased some of the heaviness and energy draining of it all. I was reading the news and two things struck me at the same time; people hoard and withhold love like its scarce and two, now is all we have and in each moment we get to choose how to spend that moment.

To counter this in my life I decided it was time to fall in love again. Head-over-heels, passionately, enthusiastically and single-mindedly in love. And I have.

I’ve fallen in love with the taste of the first sip of the first coffee of the morning. I’ve fallen in love with the sound of my sister laughing. I’ve fallen in love with the sound of my mum calling me ‘darling’ and with how my husband’s eyes light up when I enter the room. I’ve fallen in love with the satisfaction of completing a jigsaw puzzle and I’ve fallen in love with the challenge of the next chess move.

I’ve fallen in love with the safety of losing myself in a good book. I’ve fallen in love with hearing a group of friends joking around over nothing in particular. I’ve fallen in love with the texture of beautiful fabric and the colours and patterns they make as I sew them together. I’ve fallen in love with the way my body feels after a yoga workout and the sound of my favourite music.

I’ve fallen in love with seeing my husband smile and with the feeling of security and connection I have when his arms are around me. I’ve fallen in love with the excitement of learning. I’ve fallen in love with the sound of beautifully crafted words and sharing them with others. I’ve fallen in love with the warmth of the sun on my skin and the cleansing rain on my face. I’ve fallen in love with sharing downtime with a bestie and  I’ve fallen in love with making my husband laugh.

Each minute I try and find something to love in that tick of the clock. Now is all we have and so I don’t need to think about what I’ve lost. I can channel all that love into a million other things, and the world needs more love. I think it’s time we all fell in love again; you don’t need to go looking for love if that’s where you’re coming from.
